Thursday June 26th found
National Holstein Convention attendees trekking through Northeast Iowa, viewing a variety of great herds. One tour featured stops at Regancrest in Waukon, Moondale in Monona, Henkeseen in Luana and Wesselcrest in Greeley. A second tour option took convention goers to The Field of Dreams movie site, the National Farm Toy Museum and to view great cattle at Le-O-La Holsteins and Reuter Dairy in Peosta and Farnear Holsteins in Farley.
Never one to be daunted by mere geography, gravel roads or time...I set off to take in all these great herds, the museum and the movie site, and a couple of tours for the
National Guernsey convention being held in LaCrosse, WI. All in one day. After spending a couple of hours plotting my course out on Mapquest, I spent Wednesday night in Lansing, prepared to begin my adventures at Regancrest in Waukon bright and early at 7:30am. I rounded out the day, one flat tire and an extra stop at the
Gibbs & Friends Tag Sale later, arriving to the Convention in Dubuque about 6:30pm.
I saw a whole lot of great cattle, and very nice farmsteads during my day. I got to chat with wonderful people who love the dairy industry and breeding cattle as much as I do. I'd like to thank all these great establishments for opening their doors to me, and accommodating my schedule, that varied from that of the tours. I had a great time wandering through Northeast Iowa. And I have to give a special shout-out to Joe Gibbs for coming to my rescue with the flat tire. I'd still be out there wrestling with that jack and trying to pry the lug nuts off if it weren't for him, and good Samaritan Jeremy who stopped by and helped out. Thanks to everyone who made June 26th a very good day.
So, 558 pictures later...here is a look at what I saw in Northeastern Iowa. Enjoy!
(The first three stops of the day, Regancrest, Moondale & Henkeseen are posted...check back for more stops later!)
Stop one was Regancrest in Waukon, with fog so dense, I drove by the road at first, even though I actually knew where I was going!

I'm sure glad I was a baby in the seventies!
After leaving Wesselcrest, I headed to Dyersville to take in the National Farm Toy Museum.
