NorthStar Cooperative Hires Malissa Reed as SMS Evaluator

Lansing, Michigan – NorthStar Cooperative, Inc. has hired Malissa Reed as a Select Mating Service (SMS) Evaluator in Michigan. As an SMS Evaluator, Reed will work with Michigan dairy producers providing genetic consultation based on the herd owner’s genetic and production goals, the herd’s physical assessment, and on recommended pedigree and genomic data.

 

“We are very excited to have Malissa join the SMS team at NorthStar. With an inherited passion for the dairy business, Malissa has prepared for a career in the industry throughout her education,” said Jim Sipiorski, Director of A.I. Services. “Along with formal training, she has extensive experience growing up and working on dairy farms and participating in dairy judging contests.”

 

A 2015 graduate of Michigan State University with a Bachelors in Animal Science, Reed has worked on several dairy farms, completed an internship through NorthStar, and was a member of the MSU Collegiate Dairy Judging Team and Dairy Club. As a member of the Judging Team, Reed won several awards including first in Placings at the Utah Richmond Black & White Days, 17th in Madison qualifying her as an All American Judge, and many others. Beyond MSU, Reed is an active member of several organizations, including the Michigan Jersey Cattle Club and Michigan Holstein Association.
