By David Jons

The charter bus pulled out of Springfield, MA., at 7:30 a.m. with Ayrshire enthusiasts from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Columbia, Kenya, United Kingdom and the U.S.A. headed to the first stop on the third day of the World Ayrshire Conference, the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY.

A great memorial to the national pastime, the Baseball Hall of Fame offers casual or hard core fans an opportunity to see tributes to the greatest players that ever stepped on to the field. Three floors of memorabilia, videos, audios and displays that bring the game and its greatest players up close and personal. From Babe Ruth’s uniform to Ichiro Suzuki becoming the 30th player to compile 3,000 hits on August 7, 2016, decades of baseball history’s greatest are on display.

The next stop was Sunny Acres Farm, Georgetown, NY., owned by Dr. Doug and Kathe Evans who welcomed the conference attendees with a tremendous amount of hospitality, a large beautifully decorated tent set up to serve dinner and an impressive herd of Ayrshire cows.

This 45 cow herd achieves a rolling herd average of nearly 25,000 lbs. of milk with 4.0% fat and 3.2% protein. But the most impressive fact is the herd’s type with 29 Excellent, 16 Very Good and 3 Good Plus cows with the 3 Good Plus cows all 2 year olds and scored 83, 84 and 84.  The entire herd average score is 90.2.

A couple of herd favorites are Marilie Gentleman’s Karmima EX-91 and Sunny Acres CA Ginger EX-92.

The evening concluded in a great meal of BBQ beef and chicken with the Evans asking all in attendance to have a piece of cake and help them celebrate the 150th anniversary of their farm remaining in the family.
