PA Junior Holstein Convention Limping Along Despite the Blizzard
Nearly everything has come to a halt at the Pennsylvania Junior Holstein Convention due to two feet of snow dumped on the Pittsburg area.  With nearly 300 young dairy enthusiasts milling around the hotel, the quiz bowl competition has just begun-- three hours late.

The Pittsburg area is in a state of emergency as road crews have been waylaid by down power lines.  But to no avail, the quiz bowl questions were emailed to the business center at the hotel and they are just now beginning their competition.

While everything else was delayed, the extemporaneous speech competition is right on track.  The convention will continue this evening with a banquet and the All-Pennsylvania recognition followed by a dance, if the DJ can get through the snow.

The convention will wrap up tomorrow with the announcement of all the contest winners.

Here are some scenes from the convention:

Someone got enough nerve to brave the storm to create this masterpiece.

Are they disappointed because they don't have their snow boots to play in the snow or are they elated because they aren't at home having to do their chores in this awful, cold weather?

A delay in the activities gave people ample time to look over the Distinguished Junior Member books.

Before the storm blew in, they had Dairy Jeopardy last evening.

Prepared Public Speaking winners announced Friday night. Mark Kitchen won the Junior Division and Michael Rush, pictured here, won the Intermediate Division.

While Sarah Caldwell, pictured here, won the Senior Division
