The DAT People's Choice Question of the Week: Raw Milk
The DAT People's Choice Question of the Week:

The version of the farm bill defeated in the House of Representatives on Friday carried three amendments watched closely by the dairy industry. One of the amendments would have made it easier to sell raw milk and raw milk products across state lines.

How important was that amendment to you?

Hey Bob, show me the study that shows that raw milk has more health benefits!...While you're at it, look for the ones that prove that organic is better for you too...it's all marketing claims and smoke and mirrors!

Wow...I don't smoke pot but if I did, I could buy all I wanted legally in the state of Oregon...yet if I drank raw milk it's not legal to purchase raw milk in Oregon??? WOW!!! Wake up to "BIG AG" people! The cat is out of the bag as to what is really healthy.

With two completely different opinions, I have to agree with just sayin and Higgins. Err on the side of caution though. The thing that is the most worrisome is that the gorrilla in KC has a lawyer preparing a breif that will go around all of this and make it into something totally different. Be careful.

Keep government out of the food industry and let people make their own choices after all it is still land of the free. I drink raw milk every day and won't feed my family the milk I haul to get processing plant. That's what is wrong with health of people to much manufactured food.

The only way anyone, in my opinion, should be able to drink raw milk, is if they own and milk the cows. Our industry should not allow it's sale....ever! Milk is our "brand", our trademark. When people die from drinking raw milk, do you think consumers hear the word "raw"???...they hear that milk killed those people. Why would we want to do that to our "brand"? For those of us who's business is selling milk, we should do everything in our power to keep the hobbyist dairyman away from hurting our industry.

Is this about saftey or control? If someone wants to buy raw milk they need to know the source real well. Not all milk is produced the same. Watch the clean-up process. When they pull the filter sock out of the line is it covered with bits of manure, hay, silage and blood or mastitis garget. If it is turn and run out of that barn.

I have drunk raw milk all my life pretty much. For at least 60 years. It is good for you just like pasteurized milk is. It is just too risky to sell raw milk in most situations especially over state borders and the liability is too great. Let states regulate this and leave the federal government out of it.

My understanding is that when a milk truck overturns and spills its load its considered a hazardous waste site. So I got to thinking that a mother wants her child to drink his/her milk to be big and strong, but he/she spills their milk they will have to evacuate the house. Interesting.

Wow...didn't realize I was working with such a hazardous substance every day! I have consumed large amounts of raw milk most of my 55 years. I guess I should expect my demise to be close at hand. Oh...by the way...I still eat lettuce, eggs and peanut butter too, each which have caused food borne illnesses.

Why risk your farm for a few extra dollars? No one will come in to save your farm if someone gets sick or worse due to illness caused by your milk.Besides it is illegal in most states. WHY TAKE THE CHANCE!!!

If this is about some Amish from Rocky comfort Missouri selling milk to Ms housewife in calico rock Arkansas. I'm against it. If DFA/nmpf is for it I'm against it. If you have to call someone with a 202 area code to know it is. I'm against it. Otherwise go for it!!

This is about risk and reward. Can you imagine the negative publicity and consequences to the dairy industry if someone became seriously ill or died because of consuming raw milk? The chances are not great, but just the same, is it really worth the risk to let this happen?

This is NOT my or your grandpa's world. We should not be selling raw milk any more than we should be transporting loaded weapons. What was an environmental immunity 50 years ago has been replaced with anti bacterial soaps, etc. What company would insure your raw milk operation?
