A dairy cooperative in the Northeast is asking the U.S. Ag Secretary to set a floor on milk prices.
Agri-Mark, Inc., representing dairy farmers in New England states and New York, recently sent a letter to Sonny Perdue to set minimum wholesale price floors for butter, cheddar cheese and nonfat dry milk.
The co-op says the floor prices are lower than market highs reached last month and would raise prices back to levels seen before trade retaliation from Mexico and China collapsed dairy markets in recent weeks.
