James Ray “Jimmy” Hill Obituary

James Ray “Jimmy” Hill, 79, of Taneytown, MD, formerly of Emmitsburg, died unexpectedly on Monday, July 30, 2018 at Howard County General Hospital in Columbia. Born October 1, 1938 in Daisy near Woodbine, MD, he was the son of the late William Harvey Hill, Sr. and the late Elva Dorsey (Iglehart) Hill. He was the devoted husband of Anita Mae (King) Hill, to whom he was married for 58 years.

Jimmy was a dairy farmer in Frederick County for 30 years. He was Past President of the Maryland Holstein Association and the Maryland Dairy Shrine, and was a 2018 inductee to the Shrine. He was a long-time member of Tom’s Creek United Methodist Church near Emmitsburg. He and his wife Anita were residents of the Carroll Vista Community in Taneytown. He enjoyed traveling both home and abroad, playing golf and basketball, and visiting with friends. He was a fan of Mount Saint Mary’s Basketball. More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Surviving, in addition to his beloved wife Anita, are sons, David Hill and wife Sally of Gettysburg, PA, and Michael Hill and wife Debbie of Hagerstown; daughter, Susan Barnes and husband Michael of Clarksville; brother, Norman Hill and wife Velma of Woodbine; grandchildren, Dennis Hill and wife Stephanie of New Oxford, PA, Rachel Hill of Waynesboro, PA, Jamie Hill and wife Kristen of New Windsor, Lawren Palmer and husband Dane of Hagerstown, Jacob Paris of Gaithersburg, Lucas Paris of Columbia, Courtney Paris and Morgan Hill, both of Hagerstown, and Kara and Jennifer Barnes of Clarksville; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by infant daughter, Diane Anita Hill; sisters, Helena Outlaw, Mary Kay Eyre and Regina Orndorff; and brothers, William and Allen Hill.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 3, 2018 at Tom’s Creek United Methodist Church, 10926 Simmons Rd, Emmitsburg, MD 21727 with Pastor Heath Wilson officiating. Burial will be at Tom’s Creek Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the church.
