FDA Extends Comment Period on Labeling Requirements

The Food and Drug Administration is extending the public comment period on labeling rules for imitation dairy products.

A 60-day extension will move the original deadline of November 27 to January 25.

The National Milk Producers Federation has been pushing for an extension and says it will allow more time to provide research and fully address labeling concerns.

A recent survey commissioned by the dairy checkoff found nearly 70 percent of consumers believe plant-based ‘milks’ have the same nutritional content as dairy milk which NMPF says isn’t true.
