Farm Bill Passes Senate, House Next

The 2018 Farm Bill has is now up to the House after Senators overwhelmingly supported it Tuesday.  Ag Committee Chairman Pat Roberts encouraged his colleagues to support the bill.  “It’s a good bill that accomplishes what we set out to do.  Provide, again, provide certainty and predictability for farmers and families and rural communities.”

Before the Senate voted, Roberts commented on the compromise legislation.  “We have made tough choices, being judicious with the scarce resources we have on behalf of the taxpayer.  This may not be the best possible bill,  we know that, but it is the best bill possible under these circumstances.”

And, he says America is watching as the nearly two-year-long process nears the finish line.  “Every farmer, every rancher, every grower, everyone within our nation’s food supply is watching to see if we cannot meet our obligations and pass this.”

The Senate’s roll-call vote finished with 87 supporters and 13 voting against the bill.  The House has not voted on the bill but might take it up later this week.
