Stephenson: Sighns of Optimism in Struggling Dairy Markets

A dairy markets expert says the market is still struggling.
Mark Stephenson with the University of Wisconsin’s Dairy Profitability Center tells Brownfield, “We’ve just got a little too much milk and dairy product, but again, I think that there are some signs, some hints of optimism out there.”

Stephenson says that more people are starting to believe the dairy stocks in storage can be pulled down as we get near the end of the year. “Demand has continued to be strong in most places. Most countries that are major buyers of imported dairy products, you know, have been fairly supportive of that buying lately.”

Stephenson says buyers purchase products at the low point of the market for the best prices and when supplies are tight and they need to buy to meet demand. “That’s usually the bigger price bounce that we get. Personally, I’m kind of anticipating that we would be in that situation by the time we get to the third quarter of this year.”
