Dairy Leaders Press for USMCA

Dairy groups are urging Congress to get the U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement ratified.

The U.S. Dairy Export Council, National Milk Producers Federation and the International Dairy Foods Association say America’s position as a dairy leader is in jeopardy with an average of seven dairy farms closing every day in 2018.

During a House Agriculture subcommittee hearing Wednesday, Ag Negotiator Gregg Doud testified the UMCA could increase dairy exports by $228 million to Canada alone. “The is a sizable quantity and another $51 million to Mexico, so that’s a significant piece of progress on the dairy side.”

The dairy groups say expanding marketing opportunities and restoring certainty to export markets can help turn the tide with the passage of the agreement.
