A new nationwide survey finds 86 percent of adults prefer
dairy milk and want more options in school meals.
Nearly 70 percent of respondents believe 2% and whole milk
is the most nutritious and half would like to see public schools offer low-fat
flavored milks.
Only 10 percent in the poll preferred other plant-based
beverages.
The U.S. Departments of Agriculture and Health and Human
Services say children and adolescents over four years old are not consuming
enough dairy to meet current Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommendations.
The survey was conducted by Morning Consult in partnership
with the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA).
IDFA says it wants policymakers and regulators to listen to
what families prefer and value especially when it comes to school meal and
nutrition programs.
