Is there any legislation or government programs that can really save the family dairy farm?

Let's say the new family farm is 2500. Be interesting to see what they(2500) say when Walmart only has time for 100000 cow farms. Be cautious what you wish for. You might get it. Poultry and pigs fella's,headed in the same direction. They have you used to signing all kinds of papers now. Just one more thing for them to shove on you. Then your working for the company. On another note. Maybe they can bail dfa out and I can get my equity. Happy thoughts!

No. Gov't concocts programs that make you beholden to them, preventing you from making good business decisions, often times. Good, successful operations cannot attract the 3rd generation of owners unless they have size. Value added? I saw 1 yesterday; grandpa died earlier this month,[he was in his 90's], and his 'truck farm', his dream, has a for sale sign on it. Some siblings want their share NOW, so the operation is over.

high prices will help, but consumers will not stand for it. sadly dairy is just catching up with other livestock that has gone big to stay profitable??? consumer demand will didtate who profits and dont along with internet, because its always right!!

I guess it depends on what you mean by family farm. Most of the large farms, (2000 cows or more) are still owned by a family. Are you asking about saving them? Or is the term "family farm" saved for those small farms with little outside labor who everyone thinks is more worth while than a family who owns larger farms and milks more cows?

The Government can not save the Family Dairy Farm. We need to do things different than we did 30 years ago. Value added is a great example. Make cheese, bottle milk, farm raised beef, we need to think in those areas.
