The DAT People's Choice Question of the Week: Can it be maintained or increased?
Starting in mid-March, when COVID-19 became a major concern, it has been reported that dairy sales have increased in the U.S. over 20% compared to the same period a year ago.
Approximately 50% of households report they are eating at home at least 90% of the time. As well as doing more baking and kids at home needing snacks.

What should the dairy industry do to maintain and even increase this trend of consumers buying more dairy products?

Yes it can be maintained or even grown some. Need to completely rebrand and think outside the box. Would be nice to see the money they garnish off our milk checks before we get them go to some real effective promotions our product.

Looking at the above comment about families staying home more and cooking and making sure the dairy industry markets toward that, what we need to think about is all the vegan options there are. I will always support the dairy industry, I grew up in it. But what I have seen is too many vegan options that people believe are much healthier. We need to be aware of the vegan industry in itself. I've also seen options of ordering food in a box that comes straight to your door, they can be meals that are pre-made, I think that is another factor that people are not looking at.

I think more people will continue to eat more meals at home after this virus is in the rear view mirror. When most people realize how much money they save by eating at home, instead of eating out all the time, they will continue to eat meals at home. The dairy industry needs to hire a top notch marketing firm and pay them with check off dollars and get rid of the status quo. There is an opportunity here and the dairy industry should not let it slip from our hands.
