DAT People's Choice Question of the Week: Are You Concerned For The Welfare Of Your Dairy Herd From Any Of These?
New World Screwworm, Asian Longhorned Tick and Lumpy skin disease (which is currently in Western Europe and may threaten the U.S.) all adversely affect cattle by damaging living tissue, decrease in milk production, infertility and increased abortion rates.

The screw worm been in the states in the past. It will make it up here sooner or later. Will do our best to eradicate them again.

The New World Screwworm is headed to Texas from Mexico. I think at this time, many think it is not a matter IF the New World Screwworm makes it to Texas, but WHEN the New World Screwworm makes it to Texas. Hopefully the USDA monitoring and prevention efforts will work.

The Asian Longhorned Tick has been in the eastern U.S. for a number of years and is spreading west. We are aware of the problems the tick causes, but preventing the tick from entering our dairy herd is nearly impossible. The deer population carries the tick everywhere.
