Early August not only brings the dog-days of summer, it also brings the Wisconsin Junior State Fair, the largest junior dairy show in the nation. This year, the Junior Holstein show excelled in both quantity and quality. Callum McKinven of Canton de Hatley, Quebec served as the official for the show, placing 272 calves, 239 yearlings and 40 cows, for a grand total of 551 Holsteins. Kevin Jorgenson of Waupun, WI served as his associate.
Coming out at the top as Grand Champion of the show was Fischerdale Damion Reality exhibited by Dane County's Elizabeth Sarbacker. Reality was the All-Wisconsin Junior Two Year old at the Wisconsin State Holstein Show in July. Reserve Grand Champion honors were bestowed on Diamond-Vu Durham Bev, the winning four year old. Bev was exhibited by Joshua Butler of Dodge County.
Due to the size of the heifer show, the Wisconsin Junior State Fair splits classes into sections by age, to maintain class sizes of 30-40 head per class. Because of numbers, a Calf Champion is named from the winners of all the Spring, Winter and Fall Calf Classes, while a Yearling Champion is named from the winners of the Summer, Spring, Winter and Fall Yearling Classes. Then, an over-all Junior Champion is named.
The Calf Champion for the 2011 Wisconsin Junior State Fair was exhibited by Crystal Siemers-Peterman of Manitowoc County. Siemers Dundee Goldn One-ET won one of the sections of the Winter Calf Class. Reserve Calf Champion was Bella-View Shot of Gin exhibited by Kayla Krueger of Waupaca County.
Yearling Champion honors were placed upon Brookhill Attic Devastation, a winner in the Spring Yearlings. Devastation was exhibited by Kyle Natzke of Dodge County, and went on to be named the overall Junior Champion. Milksource Dundee Lovin-ET, exhibited by Hayley Vosters of Outagamie County, was named Reserve Yearling Champion. The Calf Champion exhibited by Crystal Siemers-Peterman was named the over-all Reserve Junior Champion.
